I come from a family of physicians. Medicine was the language of my childhood and the path I chose professionally. Yet nothing prepared me for what motherhood would teach me.
While pregnant with twins, I learned that my son had a life-threatening congenital condition. At twenty weeks, I was advised to terminate both pregnancies. I refused. Through extraordinary medical coordination, my son was operated on within one hour of birth in the same hospital where he was delivered. That hour determined his life.
Later, I experienced a missed miscarriage. The loss was described clinically, almost routinely, but the emotional impact was overwhelming. The grief, hormonal collapse, and depression that followed were largely unspoken and unsupported.
During the birth of one of my daughters, I nearly died due to a medical error. My heart stopped. I was resuscitated and woke up after my child had already been born, having missed her first cry.
These moments—fighting for my child’s life, losing a pregnancy, and nearly losing my own—changed the way I see medicine, motherhood, and responsibility.
I founded the Hope & Heart Bockeria Foundation to ensure that women and families facing congenital conditions, critically ill newborns, pregnancy loss, and high-risk pregnancies are never left alone.
Our mission is to unite medical expertise, advocacy, and emotional support—bringing light where fear and silence once existed.
